Course Description

This course provides students with an overview of standards-based assessment grading. Student will learn the five-step assessment development process and apply it to grade level standards related to all six national physical education standards. Students also will develop a template for student portfolios and a standards-based report card.


Course Objectives

Participants will be able to:

1. Use the five-step assessment development process.

2. Explain the most common assessment tools and how they are used in physical education.

3. Create four-point rubrics for select Washington grade level standards.

4. Select assessments for grade level standards associated with motor skill performance.

5. Select assessments for grade level standards associated with movement concepts.

6. Select assessments for grade level standards associated with participation in physical activity.

7. Select assessments for grade level standards associated with physical fitness.

8. Select assessments for grade level standards associated with social and personal responsibility skills.

9. Design a student portfolio.

10. Create a standards-based report card.

Read chapters 6 and 7

1. Select assessments for each standard 3-4 grade level standard.

Methods of Evaluation

For those taking the class for any type of credit - specifics will be explained as we progress through the course.

1. Attendance: completion of 6 online modules.

2. Use the five-­-step assessment development process: see #4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 below.

3. Explain the most common assessment tools and how they are used in physical education: essay.

4. Create four-­-point rubrics for select grade level standards: see #4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 below.

5. Select assessments for grade level standards associated with motor skill performance: project following the five-­-step assessment development process.

6. Select assessments for grade level standards associated with movement concepts: project following the five-­-step assessment development process.
