This is the official site for the Teaching Standards-Based MIddle School Physical Education via the Internet sponsored by Bonnie's Fitware, Inc.
This course provides participants with a thorough understanding of standards-based middle school instructional practices. It starts with determining what to teach and how to assess learning. From there it shows participants how to take exit standards and create grade level standards and unit level standards. Next daily lesson plans are developed that lead to the accomplishment of unit level standards, which in turn, lead to the accomplishment of yearly standards. Participants will evaluate on-the-market curricula while learning how to adapt commercial curricula for their individual needs.
Participants will be able to:
1. Identify grade level standards.
2. Select units of instruction based on grade level standards.
3. Identify unit level standards.
4. Explain the most common assessment tools and how they are used in physical education.
5. Create four-point rubrics.
6. Use the five-step assessment development process.
7. Define curriculum.
8. Describe the components of a standards-based curriculum.
9. Describe the appropriate use of interdisciplinary instruction.
10. Assess commercially available lessons plans.
11. Deliver a commercially available standards-based lesson.
12. Adapt a standards-based lesson plan for own needs.
