
Carolyn taught secondary physical education for 33 years. Her teaching career began in Northern California where she incorporated a model physical education curriculum and coached four sport seasons each year for thirteen years.
In 1983, the Montebello Unified School District hired Carolyn to teach at Bell Gardens High School. As department chair, she guided the department through the curriculum process and created a standards based curriculum. Her passions for teaching physical education lead to a position in the Health Careers Academy where the implementation of thematic instruction was exemplary. Carolyn has served as a Teacher On Special Assignment for the school district on numerous occasions. She was the Acting Coordinator for Physical Education and Recreation as well as Coordinator for the Health Curriculum Project. She also served as Site Testing Facilitator for state testing at Bell Gardens High School.
As an active member at the local, district, state, and national levels of the Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD), Carolyn often speaks for quality physical education. She captured the 1994 National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) Secondary School Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award. She has written numerous articles, grants, and co-authored The New Leadership Paradigm for Physical Education, What We Really Need to Lead.
Carolyn is retired and resides in Big Bear Lake, California where she is implementing her lifetime wellness plan. She also works for Bonnie's' Fitware Inc. as a consultant promoting quality daily physical education and effective teaching.
