
Karen Mendon is an adjunct lecturer at California State University, Los Angeles. She also provides presentations across the country and around the world. Karen taught physical education for 29 years at Montebello Intermediate in the Montebello Unified School District. She also works for Bonnie's' Fitware Inc. as a consultant promoting quality daily physical education and standards-based assessment.
Karen has a BA in Physical Education, and an MA in Curriculum and Instruction. She continues to pursue learning opportunities through attendance at conventions, conferences, and workshops. She feels that her continuing education has contributed to her ability to be a consistent, strong, open-minded, and decisive leader. She constantly strives to gain new knowledge to improve her effectiveness as a teacher and presenter.
Throughout her career, Karen has been active in leadership roles. She shares her enthusiasm, expertise, and experiences with others through mentoring and presenting at conferences, inservices and workshops. She has written numerous articles, grants, and co-authored The New Leadership Paradigm for Physical Education, What We Really Need to Lead and Concepts and Principles of Physical Education: What Students Need to Learn, 3rd edition.
Karen strives to be a positive role model for others by being enthusiastic, honest, and showing concern for others. She feels that she sets a good example in her teaching by being well prepared and using good teaching techniques and strategies. Additionally, she always takes the time to reflect on her experiences in order to improve and grow, and to make physical education a non-threatening and worthwhile experience for all students.
